 This year’s Publisher of the Year award recipient is a true leader of this association [FCPNY] and the free paper industry. Her dedication extends beyond FCPNY to both of our national associations [AFCP & IFPA] and it is for the depth of her commitment and dedication to the free paper industry that Karen Sawicz, Publisher of the Lake Country Penny Saver in Albion, NY, has been named the 2008 Free Community Papers of New York Publisher of the Year. She set a new standard for this award, being the first repeat recipient of the FCPNY Publisher of the Year title. Her award was presented at FCPNY’s annual Publisher’s Summit at The Otesaga in Cooperstown, NY. Karen Sawicz grew up in the free paper business, learning from her parents as a child. Her mom and dad purchased the Lake Country Penny Saver in 1960. Karen grew up working in every department of the operation. Ultimately she purchased the paper from her parents and she continues to operate the publication while delving into a myriad of industry association positions. Her love of the business shines through in all that she does.
